  • How often should I water my sod?

When watering your sod, the amount of water you use depends on how long it’s been since it was installed. It is important to note that you need to water your sod immediately after installation to prevent it from drying out. Then, during the first two weeks, water your sod multiple times per day to help the roots establish themselves in your soil. Around the three to four-week mark, you then want to reduce how often you water your sod. However, you should be watering it for longer each time. This deep watering will ensure that the moisture reaches the root zone of your grass, so it can continue to develop stronger roots. Water your sod early in the morning to reduce evaporation loss. The Amazing Grace Garden Center is always here to answer any questions regarding your sod!

  • When can I mow my sod for the first time after installation?

Your sod needs time to establish roots in your soil after installation, so you don’t want to mow it too early. If you end up mowing your sod before it’s developed strong roots, you can end up damaging your grass, and it'll have a tougher time recovering. Ideally, you want to wait around two weeks before the first mow. Then, when you mow it for the first time, make sure you cut back on the watering the day before. That way, the grass can firm up, and you can successfully run the mower over it. Make sure you’re not removing any more than 1/3 of the top of the grass blades when you mow your sod. Amazing Grace Garden Center has an expert sod team.

  • When can I use my lawn like normal?

Usually, newly-installed sod takes about a month to fully establish itself in your soil and become strong enough to endure regular foot traffic. If your sod hasn't developed strong roots when you begin to use it, then you risk damaging it and jeopardizing its progress. To check if your lawn is ready to be used like normal, you can test it by gently pulling on the grass. If the sod ends up lifting off the ground, then your lawn is not ready to be used yet. However, if it’s hard to pull the sod out, then that means the roots are firmly established in your soil, and you can start using it like normal. Amazing Grace Garden Center is happy to review the status of your sod over the phone when you give us a call today.

  • What are the best grasses for northern Texas lawns?

There isn’t one perfect grass. Bermuda, St. Augustine, and Zoysia are all great choices for northern Texas. However, every northern Texas lawn will present its unique challenges. Consider your situation and make the best choice for your residential landscaping services. Consult with landscape design professionals at Amazing Grace Garden Center to review your options.

  • Are French drains the best solution to my drainage problem?

French drains can be very effective for collecting and absorbing groundwater under certain conditions. However, the absorption may occur slowly due to the clay soil we have here in northern Texas. In some circumstances, installing French drains may worsen your drainage problem. French drains also require a bit of maintenance to keep the aggregate clear and functional. This maintenance is hard to perform when the purpose of a French drain is the collection of surface runoff as opposed to subsurface saturation. Contact Amazing Grace Garden Center to evaluate the specific circumstances of your property. Our recommendation may or may not involve French drains. We will help you understand why French drains may or may not be the best way to address your situation. We offer excellent landscaping services and products, so please reach out today!

  • How do gutter and downspout maintenance affect drainage?

Consider the size of your roof and the fact that it does not absorb any rainwater. Your roof displaces 100% of the water that lands on it! This water is usually discharged from downspouts right at the foundation of the structure. If downspouts are obstructed, the entire gutter will overflow in areas right against your foundation. In many cases, a properly functioning gutter system with downspout drain lines that dependably discharge the water away from the structure is the best (and first!) line of defense against water damage, water entry, or foundation issues. Contact Amazing Grace Garden Center to discuss your unique situation and any landscaping services you may need.

  • When should I water my lawn?

Water your lawn in the early morning (before sunrise). This is when water pressure is the greatest, the evaporation is minimal, and the lawn takes in the most water. Do not water in the evening because water will sit on the lawn and may cause disease. Do not water in the heat of the day because the sun will evaporate the water before it can soak in. To water your lawn efficiently, you need to provide the right amount of water that is evenly distributed in the right places at the right time. Amazing Grace Garden Center offers great advice regarding lawns and plants. We offer one of the top plant nurseries in the area.

  • Do I need smart irrigation?

Smart irrigation is all the buzz right now, and it’s for a good reason. With water at a premium, it’s important that we aren’t wasting it. We get so many questions about whether smart irrigation makes sense, but the short answer is that all homeowners could benefit from a smart irrigation upgrade. That’s because it will save you from hassles and headaches and will ultimately save you both money and water. Amazing Grace Garden Center knows a great deal about smart irrigation and also offers one of the most outstanding plant nurseries in all of Texas.

  • What can I do to reduce my water bill?

If a high water bill came out of the blue, it could be a system leak. But, if it’s consistently high and you feel like you could be saving money, then upgrading to smart irrigation can start to save you money. It will ensure that your property is watered more efficiently.
